Making his name synonymous with 19th century baseball, Cap Anson played 27 years and on August 3,
1897 became the first player to collect 3,000 career hits. The slugging 1B of the Chicago White Stockings batted over
.300 in 20 seasons; he was Batting Champion 4 times, finished with 3,055 hits and a career .329 average.
One of the greatest and most popular stars of the 19th century, he played and managed
the Chicago National League team from 1879 to 1897, winning five pennants.
Elected as a Player to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1939.
